Pennsylvania passed a new law in December of 2015 changing the background check requirements for volunteer organizations. The new State Law is requiring State Specific background checks for those living within PA for the past 10 years and for those living outside of the state in the last 10 years the state checks and a FBI Fingerprint check.

This means EVERY COACH has to run through the background check process through Protect Youth Sports. According to the State Law, these checks will be valid for 3 years. If you've lived within PA for the past 10 years your checks will be $20. However, when submitting the form online be sure to include your previous addresses within PA for at least the last 10 years. If you supply less, you'll have do the FBI fingerprint test as well. Those that lived outside of PA within the last 10 years must complete the Protect Youth Sports check online and get your FBI check which can be done at most UPS stores.

Coaches will not be allowed to draft their teams unless their checks are complete. Teams won't be able to start practice until all assistant coaches, scorekeepers, or adults looking to help at games or practices have been cleared. The checks take about a week to run through the system and come back but the Child Abuse portion can take up to a month.

You'll need your driver's license number, previous addresses going back at least 10 years, SSN, and a credit card.

Within a few days you'll receive an e-mail from Protect Youth Sports with a code and a link to fill out the Child Abuse info through the Child Abuse site. Follow the directions and at the end of the form it will ask if an organization provided you with a code for payment. Answer yes and enter the code in the e-mail. DO NOT PAY AGAIN!
